(Legend Review: Bold=Stress; Italics =Weak forms; ‿=Link; (t)/(d)=Stop; /d/=Flap T; //=Pause)

I wantto talkto you // about how to build // and rebuild trust, // because it's my belief // that trust is the foundation // for everything we do.
(want to 弱读为 wanna; talk to 这里的 k 稍微停顿; foundation for n与f 顺滑过渡)
And that if we can learn // to trustoneanother more, // we can have // unpreceden(t)ed human progress.
(trust one t与o连读; unprecedented t失爆)
But what happens // when trust is broken?
Why does it happen? // And how do we fixit?
Now // I've been thinking ‿ about this // for some time.
But recently, // my thinking has changed.
I hada very // public experience // with the lossof trust.
(had a 连读 /hæ-də/)
In Juneof twenty-seventeen, // I went // to work at Uber.
And I went // ata time // that was probably // its worst // in termsof public trust.
(terms of z与ə连读)
When I gotthere, // it was pretty clear // that trust was wobbling // whereever you looked.
Employees // didn't trust the leadership.
Drivers // didn't trust the company.
The public // didn't trust the product.
And so I hadto lookat // how do we rebuildit?
(look at k与ə连读)
So let's start // with the component partsof trust.
They are super well ‿ understood.
There's three thingsabout trust.
If you sense // that I am being ‿ authentic, // you are much more likely // to trust me.
(being authentic ŋ与ɔ:连读)
If you sense // that I have real rigor // in my logic, // you are far more likely // to trust me.
And if you believe // that my empathy // is directed ‿ towards you, // you are far more likely // to trust me.
(directed towards d失爆)
When all threeof these things // are working, // we have great trust.
But if any oneof these three // gets shaky, // if any oneof these three // wobbles, // trust is threatened.
Now here's what I'd liketo do.
I want eachof us // to be able ‿ to // engender more trust // tomorrow, // literally tomorrow, // than we do today.
(each of us tʃ与ə连读)
And the way to do that // is to ‿ understand // where trust wobbles // for ourselves // and havea ready-made prescription // to ‿ overcome ‿ it.
(overcome it m与i连读)
So that's what I would like // to do together.
So would you giveme // a hand?
Would you // voluntarily // raising your hand // on this?
I wantto thinkabout // whichof these three // wobbles // is your wobble.
Is it empathy? // Is it logic? // Or is it authenticity?
And I wantto tellyou // that mostof us // wobble // on only oneof them.
So here's how you know.
If people // often don't believe // what you're saying, // it's likely // a logic wobble.
If people // don't trustthe real you, // it's likely // an authenticity wobble.
And if people // believe // that you're mostly self-interested, // that is // an empathy wobble.
So // whichone is yours?
(which one tʃ与w圆唇过渡)
Just // thinkabout it // fora moment.
So // I wantto start // with empathy // because empathy // is the most common wobble.
And it's the most common wobble // for people // who are super smart // and quick // to learn.
When you are super smart // and quickto learn, // it is really tempting // to not give // the collaborators // their time.
People // just don't believe** // that we're mostly // in it for them , // and they believe // that we're too self-distracted.It turns out // that // if you have an empathy wobble, // it is very easy // to fix . (turns out z与aʊ连读)You just have to think about* // where, // when, // and to whom // you are likely // to offer // your distraction.
And that should trace // pretty perfectly // to when, // where, // and to whom // you are likely // to withhold // your empathy.
And if in those instances, // we can comeup // witha trigger // that getsus // to lookup, // lookat the people // right in frontofus, // listen ‿ to them, // deeply ‿ immerse ourselves // in their perspectives, // then we havea chance // of having // a sturdy legof empathy.
(look at k与ə连读; front of us t与ə连读, v与ʌ连读)

Logic // isa little different.
If you havea logic wobble, // it can come // in two forms.
It's either // the quality ‿ of your logic // or it's your ability // to communicate that logic.
(quality of y与o连读; communicate that t失爆)
Now // if it's the quality ‿ of your logic, // I can't really helpyou with that.
(help you p与y连读)
But it's not usually // the quality ‿ of the logic.
It's usually // that we communicate it // ina way // that is not helpful.
Super smart people // often speak // in triangles.
We start // here // and then we go // here // and then we go // here.
And we take people // ona journey // and we might lose them // on the journey.
People don't trust us // if they think // we're wobbling.
So // insteadof the triangle, // you haveto flipit.
Start // with the point.
Give the headline // first.
Then // give the supporting evidence.
It means // that people // will have access // to our awesome ideas // and just as ‿ importantly, // if you get cut ‿ off, // ladies // and gentlemen, // you will still have gotten // your point ‿ across.
(just as t失爆; cut off t浊化; point across t浊化)
So // empathy // and logic.
The third wobble // is authenticity.
And I find it // to be the most vexing.
We all // as human beings // wantto feel // that we can be // the real us.
But if you hold back // who you are, // we're less likely // to trustyou.
And if we're less likely // to trustyou, // we're less likely // to giveyou // the benefitof the doubt.
(benefit of t浊化)
And if you don't get // the benefitof the doubt, // it is super hard // to advance // in your career.
So to fix // an authenticity wobble, // you just haveto // be yourself.
And that // is very // easy // to say.
And it is very // tempting // to do // when you're ‿ around people // who are just likeyou.
But if you represent // any sortof difference, // the prescription // to "be yourself" // can feel // very challenging.
(sort of t浊化)
I have been // tempted // at every stepof my career // and personal life // to mute // who I am // in the world.
I'm a woman // with very strong ‿ opinions.
I am married // toa woman // who is my wife.
So // I have this natural inclination // to mute myself, // to hold back // who I really am.
And what I've learned // is that if I do that, // I'm not helping ‿ anybody.
So // what we needto do // is figure ‿ out // how to celebrate difference.
Trust // is the responsibility // of the leader // and the responsibility // of the follower.
We haveto stop // being // so easy // to take ‿ offense.
And we haveto start // being // better // at giving // the benefitof the doubt.
If we can learn // to trustoneanother // more, // we can have // unpreceden(t)ed // human // progress.
Thankyou.
(Thank you k与j连读)

(Tips)

  1. Triangle Structure (逻辑三角) :

    • 练习: 随便找一个话题 (比如 "Why I like coffee"),先用一句话总结 (Top down),然后再给原因。
  2. Emphasis on Key Terms

  3. Pause for Effect (停顿的艺术) :

And that... is very... easy to say."
